We are currently working on implementing the Pullumalai project in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. These villages include Pullumalai, Marappaalam, Mavalaiyaa, Rajapuram, Unnichchai, and Kithul Karadiyanaru. This is a multi-phased project. The general focus will be helping these families become self-sufficient via small business ventures, improving water resources in these areas, protecting their crops from being damaged by wild elephants and helping their children’s educational needs.
At times of riots in Sri Lanka, many families were forced to move away from their home and into these new villages. These new areas are now home to 432 families who unfortunately do not obtain the basic necessities for a stable life, and we are striving to help change that through different phases.
We have already made some progress through providing books to help improve the education needs, however there are still many steps left to accomplish in order to meet their educational requirements. We have started work on fencing some areas to be protected from wild elephants.
We are glad to report that we were able to successfully complete Phase I of this multi phased initiative by providing drinking water supply via tube wells to one of the schools in this area. This has not only met their drinking water supply needs but also helped the school with new toilet facilities with running water and an enhanced drainage system.
We would like you to kindly consider donating to these projects. Currently, the people in these villages have to manually dig into the ground for a source of water. This needs to be filtered for human consumption. Your donation would go towards improving several phases of our project, which will contribute to the overall wellness of the people as well as the stability of these villages.
